AIMS OF THE ERASMUS MUNDUS MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ECOHYDROLOGY
  • to qualify Master students to develop an holistic perspective of aquatic ecosystems functioning, under natural and anthropogenic forcings, to support the design and implementation of creative solutions, based on the use of natural ecosystem functions and processes in freshwater and coastal areas.

  • to qualify Master students with the scientific knowledge to understand the different spatial and temporal scales (from the catchment basin to molecular level and from paleo to present conditions) acting on aquatic ecosystems and their effects on freshwater and marine ecosystems dynamics and resilience.

  • to qualify Master students to understand the social and economic intrinsic value of aquatic ecosystems, and to be able to develop the research and applications required to support and implement conservation and adaptation measures for the sustainable management of aquatic environments.

  • to qualify Master students to become able to generate applications, models and tests of the relationships between ecosystem functions and anthropogenics changes through the integration of theoretical and modelling exercises, comparative analyses and carefully-designed experiments.

  • to qualify Master students to use advanced tools in the planning, conception and design phases of Ecohydrologic projects.

  • to qualify Master students with more developed personal skills and the necessary communication and research skills for integrated team work.

  • to qualify Masters students to develop decision supporting systems for community policy.

  • to qualify Masters students to become able to create an interface between researchers, stakeholders and decision makers.

  • to attract Masters students to Higher Education Institution in Europe.

The Erasmus Mundus Master of Science in Ecohydrology will provide a common educational platform, around the Ecohydrology concept, that congregates graduated students from different areas of engineering, hearth and natural sciences and provide advanced competences in the field of Integrated Coastal Area and River Basin Management (ICARM). Specific objectives are:

  • Strengthen the exchange of experience between state members in the application of the Ecohydrologic concept .

  • Establish common methodologies towards an integrated management of water in Europe and disseminate those ideas (by means of both lecturers and students) to the state members.

  • Strengthen the connection of Europe to third countries and consolidate the position of Europe as leader in environmental and water issues.

  • Disseminate the European vision of environmental sustainability to third countries, demonstrated by the legislation framework adopted in water a coastal zone matters.

  • Disseminate European Culture to third countries.
